An important part of your wedding in Italy that needs to be considered is transportation. Many couples don’t think about it until it’s too late and it can add some stress to the last-minute wedding organization. I recommend starting to think about it after you decide your location, the wedding day timeline, and know the actual number of guests to understand how many shuttles do you need. Here are the various options:
If your wedding ceremony and reception are in the same venue, you don’t need to move from one location to another. So, if you are getting married with a symbolic or civil ceremony in a villa that also provides accommodation for all the guests, you probably won’t need transportation at all. This can be very convenient, especially for big weddings.
You may still want to arrange transfers to and from the airport, or to the city center if the villa is in the countryside. If you get married in a hotel, they might have their own shuttle service for the guests, check if they do in advance.
If your wedding ceremony and reception are in different locations, your wedding day will require transportation, so your guests don’t get lost and women won’t have to walk on cobblestones or in the middle of the countryside roads on high heels.
My advice is to rent vans for 7-8 people instead of big buses as vans are more chic and comfortable for guests rather than arriving in a big bus. You can also rent them to pick-up your guests from the airport. Rent them for the whole day, or even for the whole stay, if the area where your guests stay is not well served by public transportation.
Some big villas also have annexes and their own internal vans to get the guests from the annex to the main property or to the city center.
Many couples want to have a vintage Italian car for their wedding day. My advice is to rent it with a driver, so you can relax and enjoy your day without thinking about limited traffic areas or parking. Another advantage in the big city centers is that professional drivers can enter areas prohibited to others because they have all the necessary licenses.
You can drive the car during the photo session or for some short video parts, like your arrival at the wedding venue, so you can remember your unique Italian wedding even after decades.
Here is a list of cars that evoke the “dolce vita” lifestyle you can choose for your wedding day:
– Fiat 500
– Alfa Romeo Duetto
– Fiat 124 Spider
– Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider
– Fiat 1500 Spider
You can also opt for Ferrari, Maserati, or Lamborghini – luxury Italian sports cars that will give a modern touch to your wedding photos or to more classical options like Rolls Royce.
Italy offers many amazing activities with iconic local transportations, like going to lunch or a wine tasting into a historical Fiat 500 car or a Vespa scooter.
While I don’t advise Vespa for your wedding day, it can be a lovely experience, especially in the Tuscan countryside, to admire the rolling hills and discover hidden gems.
You can also rent a bike or have a biking tour in the countryside or in a small city center, for example over the city walls in Lucca.
