7 Unmissable Reasons Why You Should Get Married in Tuscany

As you know, Italy is gorgeous from North to South, from the majestic snowy Alps, to the warm and welcoming island of Sicily. If all regions are beautiful, why choose Tuscany for your wedding day?

There are many reasons to prefer it to other charming Italian regions that made it so incredibly popular with engaged couples. I’d like to share some of them with you today:

Tuscany is experienced in event organizing

Thanks to world-famous movies like “Under the Tuscan Sun”, “Life is beautiful”, “Letters to Juliet” and the recent “Twilight” saga, Tuscany became well-renowned and popular for events way before other Italian regions did.

What does this mean for you?

Highly-professional, reliable vendors who know how to obtain the “wow” effect from their clients and don’t want to settle for anything less than that. From the wedding planners to the winemakers, everyone does their best to assure the highest quality. People who care about their reputation and have decades of experience but are not afraid to innovate in order to transform your event into a huge success, and ensure you can recommend them to your friends and family.

It doesn’t mean that other regions don’t have first-class professionals, of course, but you want the best for such a once-in-a-lifetime event as your wedding day, right?

Tuscany is well-connected

Tuscany has international airports in Florence and Pisa, you reach many European countries from here.

The famous A1 – “The Sun Highway” passes right through it connecting Florence to Naples, Rome, Bologna, and Milan.

For intercontinental flights that land in Rome, Tuscany is a few hours’ drive. Unlike other regions, if you want to drive in Tuscany, you can rent a car without feeling like you’re risking your life on tiny or serpentine roads that make even experienced drivers uneasy.

If you don’t feel like driving, most cities in Tuscany are connected by train or bus. You can visit 2 or 3 of them on the same day if you wish to. Not all Italian regions are that lucky with connections.

Landscapes in Tuscany are breathtaking!

Tuscan landscapes had kindled many writers and artists over the centuries. From the impressive rolling hills to the dreamy cypress trees lines that vanish in the sunset, Tuscany has so much to offer! This is why it is a great idea to tie the knot here.

There is a landscape for every nature lover. Florence, for instance, is only 1 hour from the seaside and 1 hour from the mountains. If your ideal vacation abroad is to lie on the beach and you sweet half can’t imagine a proper holiday without good trekking in the mountains, in Tuscany you can do both!

City lovers will find amazing architecture intertwined with art and history, countryside lovers will be delighted by the sightseeing. City or countryside? You don’t always have to choose in Tuscany!

Tuscan wines are world-famous

I already wrote a blog post dedicated to great Tuscan wines here, but I can’t emphasize enough what a great experience it is to drink the wine in the place where it was produced, to meet the owners of the wineries and let them tell you how their hard work becomes this world-renowned nectar of the gods.

Even if you are not a big wine fan, you will surely appreciate the quality and the savor of the local ones, or at least their incredible history. In the classic wine-producing area of Tuscany, the tradition has been passed on since the Middle Ages assuring great quality and know-how.

You can find every historical period here

Art

Italy has a great way of preserving traditions and history but Tuscany is probably the region that succeeded at it the most. It was always the theater of great historical events, from the Medici family rise to the Renaissance and the blooming of artistic tendencies. It even was the capital of Italy for 6 years, from 1865 to 1871.

Tuscany is the cradle of the Renaissance. Michelangelo, Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci all created here and left their sign in this beautiful land. So, there is no surprise that a hidden villa in the countryside may hold a fresco made by a famous Renaissance artist or that every small city hides some artistic gem.

Local villas frequently find some important paintings or frescoes hidden under their walls as they renovate, art is literally in the air in Tuscany.

If you want to imagine what it was like to live in the past, you can visit the medieval borgo, eat at the local trattoria as Michelangelo used to, or have a walk on the city walls, admiring the view from there.

History

Most cities respect their traditions by recreating some sort of historical re-enactments, when locals dress the way their ancestors used to dress to celebrate the patron saint of the city or some other event, like a horse race or a contest.

The most famous are the Palio in Siena – a world-famous horse racing event, il Bravio delle Botti in Montepulciano – where barrels are rolled on the streets of the town and the winner is the one who gets to the Duomo first or the Medieval Festival in Monteriggioni.

Here you can virtually travel to the most famous Tuscan villages.

There is a huge variety of wedding venues

How do you envision your wedding? Where do you want to say your vows? In a villa, a castle, in the countryside? You can have it all! Keep in mind the castles here are mostly medieval, so nothing to do with the ones Disney made famous. Yet, they have their impressive fascinating atmosphere that leaves no visitor indifferent.

If you like minimalism and nature, one of the hundreds of agriturismo farmhouses or a local vineyard will probably be great for your special day! These are the places Italians come to relax from the city and reconnect with nature. They are usually quite rustic, with olive groves and views of the neighboring hills. Most of them are also classy, as is almost everything in Tuscany. These locations will make you feel as if you were the star of a famous movie about Tuscany!

You can also fall in love with luxurious villas with a great view over the rolling hills or the seaside. As I mentioned before, Tuscany was the first region to open up to the event industry, this is why there are hundreds of amazing locations and new villas open their doors to destinations weddings every year. The owners are very professional and will go above and beyond to make your wedding day unique and special!

A lovely garden, a huge swimming pool overlooking the rolling hills, a fancy 5-stars hotel, a unique location for a civil wedding to surprise your guests, you name it… Tuscany has it all.

Even the most exigent people will be satisfied with the Tuscan quality standard. I mentioned some amazing wedding locations I was honored to work with in this post.

Last but not least…food in Tuscany is terrific!

Like all Italian cuisine, Tuscan cooking is based on freshest and simple seasonal ingredients. Unlike some other Italian regions, it is vegetarian-friendly: vegetables and legumes are popular here.

First courses, like ribollita – a Tuscan vegetable and bread soup – and pappa al pomodoro – a tomato and bread soup, come from the poor cuisine Tuscan peasants used to eat, but since they are made from local fresh products and their recipe has been enhanced through centuries, they are astonishing.

If you do eat meat, you will be able to experience a variety of tastes to highlight your Tuscan program. Don’t miss the famous Florentine steak, boar meat, cold cuts… All meat products are divine here – a true local specialty. Don’t miss truffles or bruschetta with the local olive oil. Even the most simple dishes will delight your palate in Tuscany.

No matter what Tuscan location you choose for your destination wedding, you can be sure your reception will be a remarkable experience.
